Cost- and Energy-Efficient Aerial Communication Networks With Interleaved Hovering and Flying

This work proposes a methodology for the energy-and cost-efficient 3-D deployment of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based access point (AAP), that exchanges given amount independent data with set ground user equipment (UE). Considering fly-hover-communicate transmission scheme, most energy-efficient hovering points (HPs) AAP are determined by decoupling problem in horizontal and vertical dimensions. First, we derive analytically optimal altitude jointly maximizes downlink uplink global energy efficiency (GEE) system. Next, propose multilevel circle packing (MCP) algorithm to determine minimal number HPs their associated coordinates, such covers all UEs geographical area. A cost analysis is carried out observe variation both fixed variable costs; these then minimized suitably selecting AAP's battery parameters, like depth discharge (DOD), defined as portion capacity consumed during cycle, velocity UAV. Simulation results show that: UAV consumption has significant impact on AAP; time spent substitution swap power major influence operational cost; system can be optimized onboard flight parameters.
